Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to care for the church of God, which he obtained with his own blood. - Acts 20:28

Elder/ Planting Pastor

Dan began walking with Jesus when he was 27 years old and has spent the years since serving in the local church in various roles and ministries. By God’s grace, he was able to see many lives transformed by the power of the Gospel. Dan was most recently the Lead Pastor of Portico Church Charlottesville’s North Campus from 2012 to 2015. Dan found leading a congregation to spiritually grow challenging but also extremely rewarding and it was during this time that God gave Dan & Kelli the desire to plant The Well. After sharing his vision with the elders of Portico, they joyfully began preparing Dan & Kelli for this new challenge and in December 2015, Dan & Kelli were sent to plant The Well in Nelson, VA.

Dan & Kelli have 5 children and live in Lovingston, the county seat.

ELDER / Mission and Outreach Pastor

John was working as a snack food distributor in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area and serving in part-time ministry. In 2001, he and his wife Lynn began praying God would show them where to serve in full time ministry. Three years later, after visiting Advancing Native Missions (ANM), they felt this was where God wanted them. They came to Virginia and ANM in August of 2005.

Serving native missionaries seems logical and natural to John. His responsibilities with ANM included shipping containers to ministries ANM serves, as well as advocating for them.  For over 10 years he and his wife, Lynn, have prayed about starting a church in Nelson County. John has a burden to teach God’s Word in its fullness and to serve full time as the Pastor of Outreach & Discipleship in this work.

John is leading the charge in developing the Well's community needs ministry, where physical needs of our neighbors can be met and relationships can develop.  Our neighbors can be discipled in a transformational relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus.

John and his wife Lynn have three adult children and live in Afton.

elder / Preaching Pastor

Justin is a freelance writer and publishing industry professional who has lived in Virginia since 2000. He met his wife, Nicole, at the University of Virginia, where he earned his Master's degree in English with a concentration in American Studies. Justin and Nicole served in ministry at Grace Covenant Church in Charlottesville, where Justin preached, played on the worship team, and led the congregation's home group ministry. During this time, he also received leadership training through the Grace Network, an experience that confirmed his pastoral calling. After praying for God's leading, the family moved to Nelson County in 2014, with church planting on their hearts.

They were looking for more space and a more tightly knit community in which to raise their five homeschooling children. Justin quickly became involved in coaching youth soccer, where he leads teams in various age groups, often sporting a brightly dyed beard to promote team spirit. It took longer to find The Well, but once they did, they were drawn in by its love of family and passion for God's Word. Justin and Nicole are thrilled to be part of what the Lord is doing in Nelson!

Sarah Turner

Director of Wellspring
(Children's Ministry)

Sarah has been a lifelong resident of Nelson County. She has served as a preschool teacher at Church of the Blue Ridge for 4 years, and has also been a middle and high school teacher at Afton Christian School. She currently is working in the Accounting Department at Liberty University.

Sarah has been a Christian for the majority of her life. She was raised in local church and after leaving she struggled to find a church that fit her and her family. After much prayer, a student of hers invited her to join him at The Well. She felt at home the minute that she walked through the door. She feels blessed to have been called to serve in the Wellspring ministry here.

Sarah and her husband David live in Nelson with their two children Noah and Isaiah.
